Rihanna dragged Snapchat online, following a distateful ad featuring herself and ex-boyfriend, Chris Brown.
The ad reads:
“Would you rather Slap Rihanna or Punch Chris Brown”?
Many found it very offensive as it referenced the former couple’s domestic violence incidence.
Taking to Instagram yesterday, the amous Barbados singer reacted to
the controversial ad, saying they were bringing shame to all domestic
violence victims and joking about it while stating that she had thrown
the whole app away.
Her words:
“Now SNAPCHAT I know you already
know you ain’t my fav app out there! But i’m just trying to figure out
what the point was with this mess! I’d love to call it ignorance, but I
know you ain’t that dumb! You spent money to animate something that
would intentionally bring shame to DV victims (Domestic Violence
victims) and made a joke of it!!! This isn’t about my
personal feelings, cause I don’t have much of them… but all the women,
children and men that have been victims of DV in the past and especially
the ones who haven’t made it out yey… you let us down!
Shame on you.. Thrown the whole app-oligy away.
This is a huge blow to Snapchat whose recent update has greatly reduced the number of users on the app.
Snapchatresponded saying:
The advert was reviewed and
approved in error, as it violates our advertising guidelines. We
immediately removed the ad last weekend, once we became aware. We are
sorry that this happened.
Recall that, earlier this year, a reported $1.3bn was wiped off the value of Snap when influential user, reality TV star, Kylie Jenner said she was “soo over” the app.
Her criticism came in the wake of a controversial update which makes adverts more prominent to users.
